Embodying the Arte of Organic Light

There is a light interior to nature itself.

The alchemists called it Lumen Naturae. The Neoplatonists understood it as the luminosity of the world soul. It was never considered metaphor. It was a real and perceptible substance a living radiance interpenetrating all of creation, communicating through the subtle body of the one who had cultivated the capacity to receive it.

Most of us were never taught to receive it. We were taught to observe, to analyse, to extract meaning from the world rather than participate in it. The sensing organ through which nature discloses her inner life has not atrophied. It has simply been waiting.

This is the work of Ascension Magick.

Lumen Naturae is the organ of subtle knowing.

It is what stirs within you when standing at the edge of a forest at dusk. It is the quality of attention that emerges when the world ceases to be an object and becomes a living presence. It is the capacity to sense meaning, pattern, beauty and intelligence moving through the visible and invisible realms of life.

A return to the living intelligence of nature and the imagination and the world soul.

The ancients understood that perception was not passive. It was a practice, a cultivation, something that required tending the way a fire requires tending. The subtle faculties of knowing, what the Hermeticists called the light of nature, did not simply exist in a person. They were developed. They were trained through attention, through immersion in the natural world, through specific initiatory processes designed to open the inner senses.

The sensing organ of light exists in you now, as it always has. But it requires conditions. Silence. Slowness. Contact with living systems that operate outside the frequency of the artificial.

In the Western Mystery traditions, light was understood to exist in at least two registers. There was the physical light of the sun, the light that illuminates surfaces and makes the visible world visible. And there was a second light, interior to nature itself, that the alchemists called Lumen Naturae and the Neoplatonists understood as the luminosity of the world soul. This second light was not metaphor. It was considered a real and perceptible substance, a living radiance that interpenetrated all of creation and communicated through the subtle body of the one who had cultivated the capacity to receive it.

For the last two decades I have walked humbely in the study and devotion of Soteira, the World Soul, and much of the medicine I carry whether the Rose or my walk with the Trees, is in devotion to the inhabitation of and learning from the World Soul. In this time coming to the altar of esoteric study and devotion to the living light, is a process that many of us are called to.

Soteira is the one who preserves the light within matter, the one who ensures the divine fire is not entirely lost in descent.

In the Western Mystery Traditions, the parting of the veil refers to a shift in perception through which the deeper life of the world begins to reveal itself.

The veil is not a barrier between this world and another. It is a condition of consciousness that causes reality to appear separate, fragmented and inert. When the veil parts, we begin to perceive the hidden continuity beneath appearances. The natural world is no longer experienced as object or backdrop, but as a living field of intelligence with which we are in relationship.

This is not an escape from reality but a deeper entrance into it.

Through the cultivation of Organic Light, we awaken the subtle faculty through which Nature discloses her inner life. The forest, the wind, the landscape, the movements of the soul and the patterns of the living world begin to speak through a language of participation rather than observation.

To part the veil is to remember that the world is alive.

It is to restore our capacity for wonder, reciprocity and communion with the anima mundi, the World Soul.

Throughout Ascension Magick we will explore practices that support this shift in perception, allowing us to move beyond the limitations of the conditioned mind and into a more intimate relationship with the living intelligence woven through all things.
